RPS Celebrates the 2019 Scholastic Standouts
On Saturday, June 1, Richmond Public Schools celebrated the top all-around students at each school during a special ceremony at the Hilton Richmond Downtown.
The Scholastic Standouts program recognizes selected students in fifth, eighth and twelfth grades. These students are chosen through a selection process based on outstanding academic achievement, positive attitude towards school, exemplary attendance, strong coping skills, demonstrated leadership ability and, engagement in school and community services.
Inspired by John Templeton, a former editor at the Richmond Afro-American newspaper, Scholastic Standouts has recognized over 1,600 RPS students since its inception in 1981.
