Please share any family- or student-focused opportunities through the form below or by emailing opportunity@rvaschools.net. Each Monday, we'll run upcoming opportunities in Direct — and they'll all live on our website, searchable by location and age. Please note, we are only able to share programs and events that are free or are minimal in cost. If scholarships or financial assistance are provided, please be sure to let us know.

Become a Student Commissioner!

The City of Richmond Human Rights Commission is seeking motivated and civic-minded students to serve as Youth Commissioners. This is a unique opportunity for students in grades 10–12 enrolled in RPS to contribute to advancing equity, inclusion, and justice in our community. 

Join the Kids on the Move Summer Challenge

Earn prizes by staying active and completing fun activities and challenges! The Summer Challenge is designed to inspire youth ages 4-12 and their families to get outside, move more, and incorporate exercise into their everyday routines during June, July, and August.

FREE Student Opportunities at the Downtown Y!

The Downtown YMCA is pleased to share information about several Teen Experiences currently open for registration. These programs are designed to complement in-school learning while providing structured, high-quality out-of-school opportunities that promote academic growth, leadership development, and student engagement. 

Gabriel Summers Scholar Institute

Up to (30) rising 10th through 12th graders from the greater Richmond region will be introduced to college-level research skills and mapping through genealogy–the study and documentation of their own family history journeys.
