General Description:

The Administrative Office Associate provides assistance to Alternative Programs team within the Department of Academic Programs and Support. Must be professional and have excellent interpersonal skills in working with staff, students, and families who are receiving services through an alternative program. Programs include, but are not limited to, Homebound, Performance Learning Center (PLC), Secondary Success Center and SOL Academy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Composes non-routine letters, answers telephone and informs and advises the public, students and faculty on a variety of matters related to school operations and policies by telephone or through personal contact.
  • Maintains payroll, documents and list invoices, and student lists.
  • Compiles, assembles, and checks information to prepare regular student records.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with personnel in other schools, offices, and governmental agencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent, plus two years of office associate experience.
  • Work experience in a school office is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and work in a cooperative and collaborative manner with co-workers, school staff, students and the general public.
  • General knowledge of business office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn operations of the school office to which assigned.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, excellence in business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Must be adaptable to changing priorities, have the ability to work independently and ability to effectively complete multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills required.
  • Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and initiative.
  • Considerable skills in operating a computer.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Word and Excel software applications required.
