Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician

POSITION TITLE:  Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have a high school diploma or its equivalency; preferred supervisory experience and at least eight years of experience as a skilled automotive diesel, medium, and heavy truck technician. The Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician must have a thorough knowledge of mechanical skills areas, diagnostic, troubleshooting, management, and administrative procedures, to include the service and repair of both gasoline and diesel engines. School bus experience is a plus. Two master certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in applicable areas is preferred. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with P and S endorsements and obtain a State of Virginia Vehicle Inspector’s certification within six months of employment.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:  Responsible for supervising the work of automotive diesel mechanics and other shop personnel on assigned shift. Performs school bus and other vehicle maintenance as required. Be able to assists the Manager of Fleet Services in the daily operations. Ensures that all vehicles parts and materials are properly dispensed by guidelines. Must ensure a safe working environment. Must participate in the training of shop employees; including on-going cross-training in all related skill areas with an emphasis on mechanical skills enhancement. Make decisions about the maintenance and repair of vehicles with minimal supervision. Responsible for vehicle emergencies after hours, weekends and holidays on an as-needed basis. Ensures that up-to-date repair details and accurate maintenance records are recorded on each vehicle. An Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician must conduct quality assurance inspections on all work performed on assigned shift. Provides annual employee evaluation information to the Manager of Fleet Services. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF WORK:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Exhibit manual dexterity to operate equipment. See and read printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical ability to bend, stoop and reach overhead. Must be capable of pushing/pulling 50 pounds; lift/move up to 50 pounds for at least 50 feet.

PAY SCHEDULE:  Unified Pay Schedule, Pay Grade 112

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:  260 Days (12 months)

FLSA:  Non-exempt
