Automotive Mechanic Lead Technician III

POSITION TITLE:  Automotive Mechanic Technician III

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have high school diploma or its equivalency. Trade or vocational school course(s) in automotive, truck and vehicle maintenance with both gasoline and diesel engine training or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Minimum of eight years of experience as a skilled automotive and medium truck technician, involving repairs of buses, automobiles, and related equipment to include experience in the service repair of Cummins. IHC International engines and Allison automotive transmissions. Have a thorough knowledge of air brake systems, suspension and steering, and electrical/electronic systems. The Automotive Mechanic Technician III must possess at least one master certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in an applicable area. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements and obtain a State of Virginia Vehicle Inspector’s certification within six months of employment. Must have the ability to lift 75 lbs. On a regular basis. Possess a sufficient amount of every day hand tools applicable to school buses, medium duty trucks and automobiles.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:  Responsible for serving and repairing automobiles, buses, trucks and other motorized equipment to include preventative maintenance and component repair or overhaul. Service and repairs automobiles, and component repair or overhaul. Must perform duties with above average quality on a timely basis. Be able to perform standard diagnostic techniques, maintains repairs and overhauls all mechanical systems to include engines, transmissions, body, electrical systems chassis and air brake systems. Perform testing on all repairs to ensure quality workmanship including a road test. The Automotive Mechanic Technician III must perform diagnostic testing using software programs such as, but not limited to, IHC Servicemaxx, Cummins Insite, Allison Doc, etc. Inspect the school buses as indicated in VDOE preventative maintenance manual. Complete school bus inspections as indicated in the Virginia State Inspection manual. Produce legible documents of repairs made on work orders. Vehicle Mechanic III must participate in cross – training of other employees. Install and manages replacement parts and accessories. Willingness to serve standby duty on an assigned week of a rotating schedule and perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF WORK:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by employees to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Vehicle Mechanic III must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Must exhibit manual exhibit manual dexterity to operate equipment. Be able to see and read printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that other may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical ability to bend, stoop and reach overhead. Must be capable of pushing/pulling 75 pounds; lift/move up to 75 pounds for at least 50 feet.

PAY SCHEDULE:  Unified Pay Schedule, Pay Grade 111

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:  260 Days (12 months)

FLSA:  Non-exempt
