GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Automotive Mechanic Technician I is responsible for servicing and repairing RPS automobiles, buses, and trucks, including preventative maintenance and repairs.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Responsible for serving and repairing automobiles, buses, trucks and other motorized equipment to include preventative maintenance and component repair or overhaul.
- Complete basic diagnostic testing as necessary.
- Produce legible documents of repairs made on work orders and perform vehicle refueling and routine service.
- Willingness to serve standby duty on an assigned week of a rotating schedule and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a high school diploma or its equivalency. Trade or vocational school course(s); or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Considerable experience in repairing automotive, medium truck, or school bus equipment in a general garage or automotive service station.
- Have considerable knowledge of standard practices and equipment of the automotive mechanic trade.
- Have knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines and mechanical repairs on buses and vehicles.
- Display knowledge of air brake systems, suspension and steering and electrical/electronic systems.
- Possess a valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL with P and S endorsement) preferred but not mandatory.
- ASE certification and State Vehicle Inspector’s certification desired, but not mandatory.
- Possess a sufficient amount of everyday hand tools applicable to school buses, medium duty trucks and automobiles.
