GENERAL DEFINITION:
The Automotive Mechanic Technician II is responsible for servicing and repairing RPS automobiles, buses, and trucks, including preventative maintenance and repairs.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Responsible for servicing and repairing automobiles, buses, trucks, and other motorized equipment to include preventative maintenance and component repair or overhaul.
- Service and repair automobiles and component repair or overhaul.
- Must perform duties with above average quality on a timely basis.
- Be able to perform standard diagnostic techniques, maintains repairs and overhaul all mechanical systems to include engines, transmissions, body, electrical systems chassis, and air breaks and air breaks systems.
- Perform testing on all repairs to ensure quality workmanship, including a road test.
- The Automotive Mechanic Technician II must perform school bus inspections and indicate in VDOE preventative maintenance manual.
- Complete school bus inspections, as indicated in the Virginia State Inspection manual.
- Produce legible documents of repairs made on work orders.
- Automotive Mechanic Technician II must participate in cross-training of other employees.
- Install and manages replacement parts and accessories.
- Willing to be on call on an assigned week of a rotating schedule and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a high school diploma or its equivalency.
- Trade or vocational school course(s) in automotive, truck and vehicle maintenance with both gasoline and diesel engine training or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a skilled automotive and medium heavy truck technician; involving repair of buses, automobiles, and related equipment to include experience in the service repair of Cummins, IHC International engines and Allison automotive transmissions.
- Have thorough knowledge of air brake systems, suspension and steering, and electrical/electronic systems.
- Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements and obtain a State of Virginia Vehicle Inspector’s certification within one year of employment.
- ASE certification in a minimum of two skill areas, automotive, school buses or heavy trucks is preferred.
- Must have the ability to lift 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
- The Automotive Mechanic II must have a sufficient amount of everyday hand tools applicable to school buses, medium-duty trucks and automobiles.
