POSITION TITLE: Custodial Maintenance Worker - Schools

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education or experience equivalent to completion of the ninth grade and some successful experience in public building maintenance work. Must have a good knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance work. Must be able to carry out simple written and oral instructions. Must have the ability to work in a cooperative manner with administrators, school staff, students and the general public. Must have sufficient strength, agility and dexterity to perform all required tasks and the ability to work outdoors in different temperatures. Must have the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to drive a vehicle with standard transmission. Must be able to climb ladders, lift and reach overhead, stand, walk, push, pull, and complete repetitive duties. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Virginia motor vehicle operator’s license.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Performs a variety maintenance tasks as assigned. Loads and unloads various materials, supplies and equipment from a truck or van. Builds scaffolds, operate power washers, jack hammers and other power equipment. Cleans floors, walls, equipment, machinery and structures. Erects and repairs chain link fencing, gates and playground equipment. Repairs parking lot and sidewalks with asphalt and concrete. Shovels snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking lots as required. Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisor. Assists other departments with moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies. Assists other trades as needed. Performs other related maintenance duties as assigned.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs responsible unskilled work in maintenance. Work is performed under regular supervision. This work is requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, climbing, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to airborne and noise hazards and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

PAY SCHEDULE: Unified Pay Schedule, Pay Grade 107

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 260 Days (12 months)

FLSA: Non-exempt
