Equipment Operator

POSITION TITLE: Equipment Operator

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or its equivalency preferred. Must have at least one year of experience operating trucks, light construction or maintenance equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have good knowledge of the care and safety of the operation of trucks, light construction and the maintenance of equipment. Must be knowledgeable of the state laws pertaining to their safe operation. Must be able to understand written and oral instructions and to keep simple records. Must have the ability to work in a cooperative manner with coworkers, supervisors, managers and school administration and staff. A good knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in equipment operation is essential. Must be skilled in the use of tools, equipment and materials pertinent to the trade. Must be able to perform routine clerical tasks and arithmetical computations. Must be able to work outside in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions. Note: Applicant may be required to demonstrate skill level by completing a performance test. Necessary Special Requirement: Must have a valid Virginia motor vehicle operator's license with satisfactory driving record.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Drives medium weight single axle chassis trucks, hauling equipment, furniture, playground maintenance supplies and other light loads. Operates snow plows, landscaping and yard maintenance equipment. Makes repairs to blacktop and playground equipment. Maintains equipment records and files. Performs weed control, trash, tree and debris removal and installs mulch. Performs other related work as required.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs semiskilled work in the operation of a truck and other motorized construction and maintenance equipment and does other related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Work requires the exertion of 35-50 pounds of force constantly and 50-75 pounds or more of force frequently to move objects load and unload materials, supplies and property. Work requires frequent climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and feeling. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for depth perception. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat, noise and hazards atmospheric conditions.

PAY SCHEDULE: Unified Pay Schedule, Pay Grade 108

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 260 Days (12 months)
