General Description:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide employee relations support.  This includes ongoing mechanisms to assess and address employee relationship related issues such as employee and manager counseling, mediation, management of progressive discipline, investigations, policy interpretation and resolution of employee grievances and charges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance, input and support to Employee Relations and Organizational Effective Coordinator as requested during significant organizational changes.
  • Promotes employee relations programs, including, but not limited to EEO, litigation, performance, turnover, and termination.
  • Conducts investigations involving situations of high volatility or legal impact (e.g. harassment, violence, etc.)
  • Serves as liaison with employee groups.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.
  • Implements HR metrics to monitor employee relations trends and guides analysis to determine potential improvements required to policies, programs and procedures.
  • Utilizes metrics to seek to continuously improve operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Researches and identifies emerging best practices in the external environment and recommends changes to existing policies and procedures.
  • Interprets current policies and procedures and counsels managers to ensure effective, consistent implementation and administration.
  • Delivers tools and techniques to enable managers to counsel their staff and comply with HR policies and programs.
  • Responds to ad-hoc questions from employees and counsels employees upon request for the process to transition to another team, performance plan activities, etc.
  • Assists in internal audits of employee relations issues and makes recommendations to resolve issues.
  • Participates in grievance procedures and exit interviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of employee relations experience or experience in a HR related field.
  • Experience handling employee grievances and conducting employee investigations preferred.
  • Must have effective problem solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze facts and present recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Must be reliable, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to use time effectively and efficiently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, school officials, employees and the general public.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
