General Description:
The Language Access & Bilingual Liaison supports the division’s diverse and non-English speaking families who seek the services provided at the RPS Welcome Center. The Language Access and Bilingual Liaison responds to the day-to-day requests for language support services and helps create a welcoming environment for diverse families within the Richmond Public Schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily provision of language support services to students and families seeking services from the RPS Welcome Center.
- Develops the RPS Language Justice toolkit for schools and staff to better bridge communication between RPS and our linguistically diverse, English Learner families.
- Supports school staff in meeting the needs of non-English speaking families through the provision of translation (Spanish to English) services, trainings, and other language-related supports and resources.
- Assists with registration and assessments of non-English speaking families in the Welcome Center. Supports the Communication and Outreach team with engagement efforts that support our linguistically diverse families.
- Connects families to resources in their preferred language of communication.
- Oversees the RPS en Espanol Facebook page
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- An Associate’s degree in social work, behavioral science or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree in one of these areas is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience planning and facilitating school, family and community activities and programs.
- Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in person and by email and phone is required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Must be bilingual (English-Spanish).
- Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, social media, and Google applications
- Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the unique needs of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds of RPS families.
