General Description:
The Language Justice Coordinator supports the division’s growing number of non-English speaking families by working to remove language as a barrier to resources, information, and family engagement.  The Language Justice Coordinator supports both families and staff by providing essential trainings and resources to facilitate communication and access.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

●      Develop and implement the division’s Language Justice Toolkit for families and staff to better facilitate communication between RPS and our linguistically diverse English Learner families

●      Manage and evaluate all Language Support Services requests

●      Maintain detailed records of interpretation/translation services rendered 

●      Develop virtual Language Justice trainings/videos for families and RPS staff

●      Work closely with the Office of Engagement’s (OOE) Advocacy and Outreach team to ensure all division communication is accessible to English Learner families

●      Oversee the expansion of RPS en Espanol Facebook page and launch of RPS en Vivo

●      Support the Welcome Center in the enrollment and assessment of newcomer students and families

●      Serve as a translator/interpreter 

●      Create and train a RPS Language Support Team comprised of staff and volunteers to support large scale interpretation/translation needs

●      Develop external partnerships with organizations/agencies who support Language Justice, including the City of Richmond’s Language Access Coordinator

●      Perform other duties as assigned


●        Associate’s degree in social work, behavioral science or a related field or equivalent work experience; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred

●        Experience planning and facilitating school, family and community activities and programs

●        Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in person and by email and phone

●        Ability to work a flexible schedule.

●        Must be bilingual (English-Spanish)

●        Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, social media, and Google applications

●        Understanding of and sensitivity to the unique needs of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds of RPS families
