General Description:
The lead general maintenance groundskeeper helps ensure that all RPS buildings’ and schools’ grounds are appropriately maintained throughout the year to both increase the longevity of the property and athletic facilities/fields, and to ensure that RPS buildings and grounds are an aesthetically pleasing part of the community. The lead general maintenance groundskeeper also oversees a team of groundkeepers.

Essential Duties:

·         Completes grounds work to include grass cutting, trimming, weed pulling/spraying, removal of large weeds and bushes, tree pruning, and shrub trimming

·         Ensures athletic fields and facilities are maintained including mowing fields, seeding and aerating the surface of fields, and determining watering solutions

·         Maintains synthetic athletic surfaces to include repairing compactions and reinforcing seams for safety

·         Grades roadways, applying gravel as needed, and grades the riding rings

·         Removes trash or debris from grounds

·         Provides assistance for athletic events including set up and breakdown

·         Provides assistance in preparation for school-based events which include use of outdoor spaces

·         Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and minor carpentry work

·         Provides leadership, professional development opportunities, and evaluation of assigned staff

·         Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

·         High School Diploma or GED required

·         Minimum of three years of supervisory experience preferred

·         Minimum of two years grounds maintenance experience

·         Herbicide and pest control license required

·         Knowledgeable in Occupational Safety and Health Administration protocols

·         Capable of operating various pieces of grounds equipment

·         Ability to work well as part of a team within the Facilities Department, as well as with school administrators

·         Ability to work in an independent, unsupervised atmosphere

·         Possess strong communication skills

·         Ability to spend several hours daily standing, kneeling, bending, walking, and climbing

·         Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more

·         Ability to work outdoors to include exposure to hot/cold, wet/humid weather conditions and dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises

·         Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
