Radio Dispatcher

POSITION TITLE: Radio Dispatcher

QUALIFICATIONS: High school education, plus one year of radio dispatch experience. Work experience in a school system transportation office preferred. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with and work in a cooperative and collaborative manner with supervisors, monitors, drivers, school staff and the general public. Excellent communications, organizational, planning, customer service and public relations required. Must have some knowledge of telephone communication and pager system, office procedures, practices and equipment; must have knowledge of or ability to quickly learn operations of the transportation office. Must be able to perform basic mathematics, excellence in business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Must have the ability to work effectively under pressure with minimum supervision and to exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative to resolve driver concerns and issues. Must be skilled in operating windows based personal computers and peripheral equipment. Some experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word and Excel software applications preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Administers the communication system for the department that includes operating a two-way radio in accordance with federal regulations, operating a pager system, maintaining logs, and operating the computerized bus locator system. Receives, relays and records, according to established routing, messages and telephone calls. Accepts, resolves or relays to appropriate person or office inquiries, complaints and emergency requests. Records calls and takes such action as is pertinent to the particular situation. Notes inquiries and requests, addresses, locations, etc. and dispatches personnel and equipment. Maintains records of locations, personnel and equipment. Reports trouble or defects to communication facilities. Prepares and files records and performs clerical work as necessary. Performs related duties as assigned.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs radio dispatch and clerical work in an office setting. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 10 pounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

PAY SCHEDULE: Unified Pay Schedule, Pay Grade 113

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 260 Days (12 months)

FLSA: Non-exempt
