General Description:
The Technology Services team is responsible for ensuring that Richmond Public Schools’ technology resources function efficiently and meet the needs of the RPS community. The Senior Network Engineer supports this work through network upgrades/maintenance, and by researching ways to create greater efficiency throughout all district systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides maintenance and support for all LAN/WAN components
  • Setup and configure LAN/WAN components
  • Responds to service tickets related to LAN/WAN
  • Maintains appropriate written documentation for new installations and upgrades of LAN/WAN
  • Coordinates with vendors for the installation of equipment
  • Provides specifications for quotes by vendors on network wiring installation and LAN/WAN components
  • Works with the Manager, Infrastructure for E-Rate planning
  • Coordinates with Network Engineer to resolve technical issues
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or equivalent
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or higher certifications in other networking technologies including switching and routing, network security, physical wiring, and network design preferred
  • Experience with web security and web filtering applications and appliances; experience with iBoss preferred
  • At least five years of experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting switches, routers, firewalls, and other LAN/WAN equipment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visio and the ability to learn other similar applications used for network documentation
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure to resolve network outages whenever they occur
  • Ability to work after normal work hours and on weekends as required to perform network maintenance
  • Working knowledge of Numara Footprints service desk system preferred
  • Ability to communicate efficiently in technical or simple terms as appropriate to end users, staff and management 
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with school staff, employees and other customers
