General Description:
The Senior School Social Worker provides oversight at the division level for the school social worker team to ensure that students and families to receive supports to address social emotional development and academic progress. The Senior Social Worker supports the division in strategic planning to provide supports that are restorative and trauma responsive in nature.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

●        Supports with overall development, implementation, and monitoring of division wide trauma responsive, social emotional supports to promote a positive Culture and Climate framework for the division

●        Consults with administration and staff to support school-based teams in areas including school-based intervention, child find, mental health, attendance, and school climate; participates in these teams as necessary

●        Supports leading division-wide crisis response teams inclusive of threat assessment and mental health support teams

●        Leads and evaluates the department’s school social worker leads

●        Directly leads and evaluates a small team of school social workers in order to ensure students receive the appropriate trauma responsive whole child supports impacting social emotional learning, mental health, attendance and academics

●        Supports in planning and implementing team, department, and division-wide professional learning over the summer and during the school year

●        Serves as a designated Attendance Officer

●        Provides oversight for appropriate assessments and evaluations for child find

●        Investigates and responds to issues identified through school referral forms

●        Serves as RPS mental health representative on community-based teams such as Court Multi-Disciplinary Treatment (MDT) team and DSS Family Assessment Planning Teams (FAPT)

●        Provides services and support over the summer during division programming

●        Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

●        Completion of a two-year Master's Degree program from an accredited school of social work required

●        Pupil Personnel Services License with an endorsement in school social work required

●        Minimum of three years of successful experience as a school social worker  

●        Experience leading a team required

●        Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly

●        Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders

●        Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently

●        Experience working in a fast-paced, environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; comfortable with ambiguity

●        Ability to work in a cooperative, collaborative manner with administrators, teachers, parents and other professionals about student challenges and appropriate strategies

●        Ability to establish appropriate networks with school programs, community agencies and resources to provide essential services for families and children

●        Necessary Special Requirements: Valid Virginia driver's license and willingness to use personal automobile

●        Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
