General Description:
The Work-based Learning & Testing Specialist collaborates with the Manager, Career and Technical Education (CTE), to create, expand, and monitor high-quality work-based learning opportunities and coordinate career-focused experiences for students in grades 6 - 12. The Specialist leads and supports all aspects of CTE industry credential testing for grades 9-12 and supports the development of career goals in preparation for education and employment beyond high school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

●        Assists with planning, organizing, and facilitating meaningful work-based learning opportunities through business/industry and community resources

●        Works with the Manager, CTE to create and expand high-quality work-based learning opportunities for secondary students to include in-person and virtual student simulations adhering to VDOE work-based learning guidelines

●        Promotes the Virginia Work-Based Learning Continuum to prepare high school and middle school students for post-secondary training and the workforce which includes presentations to staff, businesses, students, and families and the development of promotional materials

●        Maintains the database to track work-based learning experiences and transition, post-secondary training, and employment opportunities provided by VDOE

●        Monitors students participating in work-based learning experiences to evaluate their skill development, provides support, and tracks appropriateness of the workplace experience through the use of training plans, site visits, meetings with teachers and site supervisors, and student conferences; collects, submits, and retains participant data and reports

●        Works with the Manager, CTE to create experiences to improve 21st century Workplace Readiness Skills including the facilitation of Employment-Skills workshops such as job interviewing, job application, and resume writing

●        Coordinates industry credential testing, collects data, and provides support based on data to CTE teachers

●        Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

●        Master’s Degree in Leadership Administration and Supervision required

●        Postgraduate Professional with an endorsement in Career Education program area required

  • Minimum of three years of recent successful experience as a teacher, administrator, or supervisor required

●        Evidence of leadership beyond the classroom

●        Knowledge of Virginia CTE programs, Career Clusters, CTE Pathways, Work-based Learning experiences, and CTE industry credentials

●        Ability to form strong relationships and collaborate with students, team members, teachers, administrators, and other community and business stakeholders

●        Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently

●        Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; comfortable with ambiguity

●        Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly

●        Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
