Staff Accountant, General Ledger and Reporting

POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant - General Ledger and Reporting

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field and at least three years increasingly responsible and progressive experience in government or general accounting is required. A good working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices is required. Excellent interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills are essential. Incumbent must have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision; able to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner with all employees, school administration, business and community representatives; ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and strong skills in using the Internet and Intranet is essential.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Maintains Student Activity Funds (SAF). Oversees the monthly preparation and timely submission of Student Activity Financial Reporting for over 40 schools. Provides technical assistance to school based Finance Officers responsible for reconciling SAF. Verifies validity and accuracy of Student Activity Financial Reports in accordance with established regulations. Follows up with Finance Officers when corrective actions are required. Updates the SAF manual. Provides training for new Finance Officers and Principals including written job aids and FAQ’s. Maintains, distributes and replenishes petty cash for school district. Performs reconciliation of various general ledger accounts. Prepares work papers and other analyses to support year-end revenue and receivables, records accruals in support of the audit requirements. Invoices, collects and maintains reports for building rentals. Handles the unclaimed property research, due diligence and files with the state. Posts journal entries and maintains journal entry files. Writes, updates and maintains comprehensive policy and procedures manual for assigned tasks. Contributes to finance team effort by performing other duties, tasks, and participates in special management/financial programs as assigned.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK: Performs accounting functions in the area of banking activities, revenue, accounts receivable management and general accounting. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 10 pounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.

REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager

PAY SCHEDULE: Unified Pay Schedule, Pay Grade 119

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 260 Days (12 months)

FLSA: Exempt
