Title I, Part A provides financial assistance through state educational agencies to school divisions and public schools with high numbers or percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic content and achievement standards.

School divisions target the Title I funds they receive to public schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families. RPS Title I funded schools are schoolwide programs that are designed to upgrade their entire educational programs for all students, particularly the lowest-achieving students.

Federal funds awarded under Title III support programs to improve the education of English Learners (ELs) and Immigrant Youth (IY) by helping them with language acquisition and meeting challenging state content and achievement standards. Title III programs provide enhanced instructional opportunities and resources for students and their families.

These federally funded programs have been authorized to support public and non-public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The overarching purpose of these programs is to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools in Virginia.
