Superintendent's Advisory Councils

The Superintendent’s Advisory Councils offer invaluable opportunities for some of our most important stakeholders to shape the direction of RPS. Each Council has between 20 and 40 members appointed to an annual term. Learn more about how to get involved below.

  • The Superintendent’s Advisory Council is composed of up to five 10-12 graders from each high school. They meet monthly, and develop a major initiative throughout the year. Past projects have included guiding implementation of RPS’ cell-phone-free policy, and selecting more diverse and student-friendly lunches. To get involved, speak with your school principal.

  • The Teacher Advisory Council meets regularly to move forward initiatives to support staff engagement and retention, and to give feedback directly to RPS leadership.

  • Every year, the Parents Advisory Council comes together to learn more about RPS and provide parent input on key priorities. Members are selected via application every fall.

  • The IAC brings together faith leaders from across Richmond to advocate Richmond’s children. For more information or to get involved, reach out to Nannette Bailey at nbailey2@rvaschools.net. 

  • The SEAC is a partnership between RPS, parents and guardians of students with disability, and vital community stakeholders. Mandated by the state, it advises the division on local issues, policies, and planning, all toward the goal of creating more inclusive educational opportunities for students.

  • The Multilingual Success Advisory Council brings together families to support and advocate for multilingual students. Parents meet monthly to discuss policies, resources, and deepen connections between RPS and the multilingual community.
