  • RPS Launches New Crossing Guard Pilot Program

    “While the focus is on the safety of our students and families, we are also very intentional about creating safe and loving school environments through this pilot,” said RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras. “Each crossing guard from the program works at that school, so they are already familiar with the school community, which empowers them to continue to build on their relationships with students and families.”

  • Home Visits Initiative Builds Trusting and Meaningful Relationships with Families

    "Our parents are experts on their children. We believe that parents and teachers are co-educators, each just as important as the other,” said Dr. Shadae Harris, RPS Chief Engagement Officer. “All families have the ability to assist their child in their academic success and high impact family engagement strategies, such as home visits, can happen in everyone's home.”

  • RPS Administrators Attend Trauma-Responsive Leadership Training

    “In alignment with Dreams4RPS, this training is a significant step for our division in ensuring that our teachers, support staff, and administrators have the skills necessary to effectively and compassionately serve all of our students who may have been impacted by trauma,” said Harry Hughes, RPS Chief of Schools. “Through a thorough understanding of trauma-responsive practices, coupled with our deep care and commitment to our students, we can work together to minimize the impact that this stress has on their lives so that they can focus their minds on learning.”

    "It is an honor to celebrate the rich legacy of RPS athletics,” said Stefanie Ramsey, RPS Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics. “Each of these outstanding athletes represents the best in RPS and in their own lives and communities. We are thrilled to recognize each inductee this evening for their dedication and achievements.”

  • RPS’ Power Scholars See Gains in Reading and Math

    “In alignment with our strategic plan, Dreams4RPS, we are committed to working with the City and our partners to provide high-quality out-of-school-time options for our students,” said RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras. “Power Scholars is a great example of what our students are capable of when they have access to rigorous and exciting opportunities and the tools they need to succeed. I’m grateful for this collaboration with the YMCA, BellXcel, and Walmart and we’re excited to begin planning for Power Scholars 2020.”

  • One Richmond One Book Kick-Offs at Elementary Schools Across the City

    “It’s critically important to have parents, guardians and caretakers be actively engaged in the lives of their children, and the One Richmond One Book program inspires that engagement through the joy of reading,” said Mayor Levar Stoney, who read at four Richmond elementary schools in support of the program last year. “I’m absolutely thrilled our students, families, and schools will have the opportunity to read and share three more books together again this school year.”

  • ***REZONING UPDATE***

    The School Board will hold a special public hearing and school board meeting to discuss rezoning proposals for the Northside on Monday, December 16th at Ginter Park Elementary School at 6:30pm. The School Board is scheduled to vote on a final rezoning plan for the Northside after the public hearing and we encourage everyone to come share their voice!  

    The School Board will be considering the four options formally adopted by the Rezoning Advisory Committee (W, X, Y, and Z) and six new additional options. We encourage you to submit public feedback using our online feedback form or attend the final public hearing. View full detailed maps here.
