Early Head Start Registration will be from April 7th to May 30th

Early Head Start is a no-cost program for children 6 weeks to 2 1/2 years old who live in the City of Richmond and meet the Federal Income Guidelines. Families who receive public assistance (SNAP, TANF or SSI), and foster care recipients automatically qualify. Those children who are homeless may also qualify regardless of income.

Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2025-26 School Year Is Now Open! 

Current preschool students turning five-years-old before September 30, 2025 need to enroll in Kindergarten.

At RPS we go the extra mile to support families! Our program includes transportation services, nutritious breakfast and lunch all provided at absolutely no cost to you.

2025-26 Required Documents to Apply

To apply for RPS Preschool (VPI, Head Start, and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Inclusion Classes) families will need to complete the online preschool application and provide the following documents: 

  • Original or Certified Child’s Birth Certificate
  • Two Proofs of Residence
  • Proof of Income
  • Up-to-Date Immunization and Physical Exam Records
  • Individualized Education Program (IEP), if Applicable
  • Court-ordered Custody Paperwork, if Applicable

Families of children with special needs are encouraged to apply to preschool.
