College & Career Pathways
College & Career Pathways
We help students turn dreams into goals - and goals into reality, so they are ready to step confidently into life beyond the diploma.
The College and Career Pathways team is comprised of passionate professionals in the areas of school counseling, gifted education, Future Centers, and college preparation, including dual enrollment. Each team member is committed to ensuring that all students in RPS have access to resources that support an enriched educational experience and a robust future plan.
Goals
- Future Pathways - All students will be able to name personal, academic and future goals specific to their desired future path; recognize multiple pathways for a positive future, and understand the requirements of their future goals and the impact their actions have on their ability to attain those goals.
- Ownership - All students are encouraged to take academic risks to develop a growth mindset and take ownership of their learning.
- Environment - All students are supported by adults who collaborate with and advocate for them, helping to ensure access to an academically challenging learning environment that is inspiring and engaging.
School counselors are essential to our work, ensuring that every student’s academic, career, and personal goals are aligned with pathways, programs, and postsecondary plans.

College prep is a process, not a one-time event. Starting now with steps like financial aid and portfolio building creates more opportunities for the future.

Virginia (8VAC20-131-140.C.2) requires every elementary student to have an Academic and Career Plan Portfolio (ACP) - a simple way to help children explore interests and set early goals for the future. Students in RPS begin building their ACP in 5th grade and refine their interests and plans through middle and high school. More information on ACP can be found at VDOE Academic & Career Plan.
How to Access the ACP:- Log in to Clever using your RPS student account.
- From your Clever dashboard, look for and click on the Virginia Wizard icon.
- Once Virginia Wizard opens, select Academic & Career Plan (ACP) from the menu.
- Begin exploring your plan, updating goals, and checking your progress.
